In Pandanrejo Village, Bumiaji Subdistrict has indeed become a center for picking strawberries. It's just that, until now the development of strawberry farming is decreasing due to the lack of seed supply.
"Here now many are moving not to plant strawberries. Because there are no seeds, the solution they plant is another, "said Tohiran, a strawberry farmer, Pandanrejo Village, Bumiaji District.
According to Tohiran, currently it is not easy to develop strawberry seeds. Because the results of the previous strawberry crop development during the rainy season is not optimal, because that causes the strawberry plant seeds to be of poor quality.
"Because before the rainy season, when the rainy season the plants were badly developed. So that the prospective seeds that will be developed cannot be maximized, "he added, Sunday (04/29/2018).
For strawberry farmers who do not plant strawberries they move to plant vegetables. Vegetables grown include leek, andewi, corn, mustard greens and so on. "There are also those who started to switch to flower planting, such as chrysanthemums and others," Tohiran explained to BatuTIMES.
However, some farmers began to try to do the nursery optimally. Because at this time the weather conditions are dry, so success for nurseries can be better.
"Some farmers have moved to maximize their crops during the last rainy season," he added.
He added that for now the price of strawberries at the farmer's level is Rp. 30 thousand per kilogram, while for those who want strawberry picking Rp. 50 thousand per kilogram. For the harvest in the dry season this is faster, 3 months.
"If the rainy season is longer, because strawberries cannot stand with water. "You get rotten water," he concluded. (source: Batu Times)
